13th August 2013

Today all shower screens and mirrors were installed today, along with study nook data points.

The shower screens look good, although not what I expected. They were a matt stainless steel, not polished. I was certain they were supposed to be polished stainless steel. They were also supposed to have stainless steel handles, but they look like a grey plastic. They still look ok though as they match the tiled area edges. We will still raise this with the SS.

The mirrors however we are really disappointed with. For some reason the mirrors arent flush with the benchtops. They look like they have been made to be flush with the vanities. It looks silly as the mirrors sit within about an inch of the benchtop edges. The ensuite doesnt look too bad. Its the main bathroom that we don't like. Stegbar have installed the mirror without centreing it on the wall, so on one side there is about a 10cm gap and on the other side there is a 2cm gap. It looks ridiculous. If the installer had installed it more to the left and flush with the benchtop, it probably wouldn't have looked so bad. I also hate how the mirror in the master ensuite hasnt covered the top grout line. I was really hoping it would have been slightly taller. We will definitely be raising this with our SS as its really noticeable. I hate it when things are off centre. It was bad enough having the toilet window off centre, now this. I was just having a look at the display home photos and the mirror is the same. So I am assuming nothing will be done about it. Not happy today :(

We did get a text message from MJH today informing us that our house was nearing completion and that we would expect a phone call to arrange an inspection. Fingers crossed its before 27th Aug.

We think all that is left to do in the house is the finishing off of the silicon and grouting in the wet areas, the kitchen splashback, door stoppers and installation of the hot water system.

  1. We built with Rawson Homes, who also use Stegbar. They did the same thing with our main bathroom mirror. It was off centre by quite a bit. We got our SS to get Stegbar to replace the mirror. Make sure you follow this up and keep on top of them so it is replaced (they cannot move them) as it will annoy you.

  2. Hi Renai,
Your home is looking wonderful! We are building the chesterfield executive and are waiting to do our colour selections. I wondered if you would mind answering a few bathroom questions?

We are looking at doing the same with our bathroom mirrors and wondered if you paid extra for the extended mirror over the bath? It's a shame they are off centre, we will be mindful of that when ours is being built. Also wondering if you paid extra for your tiles behind the vanity in the ensuite? We are trying to come up with a budget for colour selections but our rep from the walk through hasn't been very helpful

    Kind regards,
    Mel

  3. Thanks Mel. The mirror is standard in the Milano 4 so no extra was paid. The same with the tiles behind the vanity. We went with the standard colour tiles they had so we didn't have to pay any extra. The only thing we upgraded in the bathroom were the shower screens. Instead of the standard, we chose the semi frameless in silver.

  4. Thanks for your reply Renai. We are hoping the bigger mirror will be standard in our home too as it is in the display. We are going with the standard tiles too, they look perfectly lovely without upgrading and I want to put the money towards a fireplace.
Congratulations on your new home, hope everything runs smoothly up to handover :)

  5. Its a pleasure. If the big mirror is in the display home then I would say its probably standard. We want to do the exact same thing and put a fireplace in later on. Congrats on your home too. I hope you have a hassle free build. I look forward to seeing your progress.
