10th August 2014

Our electrician started on our lights this week. Really happy so far. There will be a little bit of patching to do which is a pain. Luckily Pete's brother is a gyprocker. We might have to ask him for a favour...hehe

There are only a few more lights to be installed inside. This Friday will see the rest of the lights installed. I still need to figure out what to do outside. I'm unsure about whether we should put downlights in our eaves yet or whether it will be overkill.

Pete started digging a trench last weekend out the front for our retaining wall. The poor thing has 'man flu' at the moment, so nothing got done this weekend unfortunately. Trying to source leftover bricks from other peoples builds at the moment to save us some money. If you have any spare bricks you want to get rid of, please let me know. We are going to need 1,000 bricks, otherwise I am thinking about buying besser blocks, as it will be quicker and easier to lay and we won't need anywhere near as much. Hopefully the weather will be good next weekend and Pete will be over his man flu, so we can get started on it.

Some pics (some of the house is still unfurnished...long way to go)...

  1. Hi Renai,
LOVE your house! Can I ask what height ceilings you guys went for? Especially in the back area where the kitchen is dropped down???

    Thanks!!

  2. Thanks so much Jo :)

They are 2550mm high ceilings. We opted for the high ceilings - the higher the better. We would have loved to have gone with the step down but it was going to cost an extra $10,000 and we just couldn't afford it at the time. If we had gone with the step down, they would have been higher again. We did however get the bulkhead put in over the kitchen. It's not as big as the display home bulkhead though, because we don't have the step down.

  3. Ahhh thankyou! Did it cost much extra to get that height? We are in the process of getting our quote done! Although we will have a max split through our house due to the slope of our block, so not sure if having the higher ceilings at the back (where we would step up to) would make the front ceilings toooooo high!!
    Thanks for your help!
Its so nice to see pictures of what the home looks like :)

  4. Hi,

So the wall colour displayed in these pictures is the Taubmans Tombstone as you indicated in your colour selections? It looks great and goes well with your floor. We're choosing colours at the moment and it's driving me insane :) But have narrowed down to a couple including Tombstone.

What is the type of wood you have used on the floor?

    thanks
    Joanne

  5. Hi Joanne, yes the walls are Taubmans Tombstone. You can't go wrong with this colour. Works with anything. some similar colours are Dulux Hog Bristle which is popular and Dulux Ecru. The flooring is actually timber laminate - Parador Floorboards 'Classic 1050 Walnut Wide Plank', which we got from Carpet Call at Castle Hill. They are not the easiest to keep clean. If we were to do this again, we would definitely go with real timber floorboards next time. Good luck with your colours. I know how frustrating it can be and not knowing how it will turn out makes it such a difficult decision :)
